Chimera Season Ends with Loss to OptX
It all comes down to the final day of the 2008 CGS North American regular season. The math is simple, a Chicago Chimera win and a Carolina Core loss means that Chicago moves on and Carolina is out. Any other situation and the Core move on and the defending champions will be packing up early.
In the last match up against the San Francisco Optx, the Chimera managed to pick up the victory (their first of the season) by a narrow two point spread. They will need to repeat or better that performance to keep their hopes of making the post season alive. The pressure will lie heavily on both Dead or Alive 4 players as well as Counter-Strike: Source as they have struggled lately to pick up valuable points. JaSoN-X and CH0mpr have really picked up their play and Eafra has managed to keep up his early strong performance.
Unfortunately, a win alone will not be enough to book a ticket into the post season. Yesterday the Chimera received a vital favor by the LA Complexity who managed to pick up their first win of the season against the Core. Today, they need Dallas to also do the same. The last time the Venom faced the Core was back in week two of the regular season which saw Dallas take the win.
Note: This match will not be broadcast on DirecTV.
Update: Despite giving a last ditch effort due to Carolina Core losing to the Dallas Venom earlier in the day, the Chicago Chimera were unable to take advantage and dropped their must win match against the San Francisco Optx. The loss marks the end of a disappointing 2008 season as the Chimera will now return home to spectate the playoffs and World Finals. Best of luck to all teams that moved on.
