The Fate of Chimera Season Two
This season has been an interesting season; nearly five out of the six franchises in North America have had a shot to go to the playoffs and take the North American crown. This is great for the Championship Gaming Series, but not so good for teams that are on the bubble like Chicago Chimera. This season the Chimera has matched up with a tough schedule being the returning world champions. They have had to play two very outstanding teams in 3D.NY and Carolina Core two times during this regular season losing all four matches to them. Now with them losing these matches you might be thinking that the Chicago Chimera is not a good team this season; this is entirely not true. In all reality the best four teams probably look something like this:
1. Carolina Core
1. Dallas Venom
1. 3D.NY
4. Chicago Chimera
5. San Francisco OPTX
6. LA Complexity
Current CGS Standings After 10th Day:
1. 3D.NY (6-1)
2. Dallas Venom (5-2)
3. Carolina Core (4-3)
4. San F. OPTX (4-3)
5. Chicago Chimera (2-5)
6. LA Complexity (0-7)
You are probably asking yourself, well why is Brad putting three teams at number one? Well that is a simple answer to a simple question. Each team has beaten one another one time or more. Each team just matches up differently than each other; Chicago Chimera is in fifth place with a difficult schedule after beating San Francisco OPTX & LA Complexity. The rest of their losses have come from all those other teams ahead of them by a close margin. Here are some of their scores the past few matches.
New York 3D - 26
Chicago Chimera – 25
New York 3D – 35
Chicago Chimera – 34
Dallas Venom – 24
Chicago Chimera – 19
Right now the only team that really has the Chimera’s number is in fact their old rivals the Carolina Core. For some reason the guys at Chicago Chimera just do not match up with the guys at Core. Dolven must be putting something in the water in Carolina to make these guys really play well when they come to play against Chicago because it is ugly.
Now to the nitty gritty of this article, can Chicago Chimera get it done to make the playoffs and try to renew their North American title? I say yes, and that is not just because I am being bias or because I am Brian’s right hand man either. I think that it might take a little bit of extra blood sweat and tears in the practice room, but it can be done. We all heard it this season in the NFL when the New York Giants could not upset the Dallas Cowboys, then go to the Super Bowl and beat the unbeatable New England Patriots. This team does not take their matches lightly; they do a lot of pre-match practice. I just think they just need to channel some of the pressure that they are feeling when going into the matches. You can say yes, the team from Chicago has had an unfair schedule this season. But, the fact of the matter is this ladies and gentlemen; in the end you have to beat everyone anyways.
After being a wrestling coach for the past ten years I have come to realize seeds, rankings, and what you do prior to the playoffs is just irrelevant. Once the big lights go on and your in the spotlight for lots of cash it is an entirely different world. The next question you have to ask yourself is does Chimera still have that come to spotlight stature. Do they have what it takes to score the upsets they need to make it to the, “Big Dance”. Last season they took the spotlight and dimmed it with their own shining light. This season, they have had a few individuals crumble when they are under pressure. My only response for that is; I really hope we are able to reflect the image of last season.
You place SFO behind Chimera DESPITE them having the same results posted as the Core...
Then you also ignore the fact that they have two in the W column that Chicago do not have...
Close losses are still losses (and a 5pt loss to Dallas does not really count as close). Dallas had a close loss in day 1 (overtime) and have turned it around. Close losses don't get you playoffs. And a win over LA is not a magnificent achievement this year - yes, all talented players but misfiring terribly, morale is low and a playoff place is basically beyond reach.
Also, no such thing as an unfair schedule - all these players are the cream of the crop from the North American region (and Italy!
However, Chicago CAN make the playoffs - talented bunch of individuals. But it will be tough and there is no room for excuses - learn from mistakes, pick up the game and move on.
